Executive Committee

The Council of Islamic Guidance has the following executive committee managing day to day activities of the Center. Please check the constitution for their powers, responsibilities and authorities.

Ahsan Butt, PresidentAhsan Butt

President

Mr. Ahsan Ali Butt came to Toronto in 1973 and has been an active member of the GTA community since 1984. He graduated from Polytechnic Institute RawalPindi in 1973, being a founding member he brings leadership and history to the CIG. He is currently working for General Motors of Canada as a Quality Assurance Inspector. He has four kids and activly participates as a executive at the Al Mahdi Center.

He plays the following role in the Council:

  • General management and supervision of the affairs and operation of The Council;
  • Presides at all Executive Committee and General Meetings;
  • Appoints, in consultation with other officers, additional sub-committees on such terms of reference as deemed appropriate;
  • Consults the Resident Aalim on all matters of Shariah;
  • Acts as an Ex-Officio member of the Board of Governors.

Ali Mazhar, Vice PresidentSyed Ali Mazhar

Vice President

A Veteran IT professional with more than twenty three years experience in both server and client side computing, well versed in Microsoft, Novell and VMware environments. Syed started his career in research and development designing interfaces between PCs and industrial robots with custom made input/output cards for PCs.

Having worked with organizations like Compugen, IBM and others, Syed acquired excellent network management, deployment and support experience and skills. He has in-depth knowledge of virtualization architectures with experience in VMware and Securix products. Currently he is working at Click-INTO Inc. as Senior Technology Specialist, specializing in desktop virtualization products and desktops as a service (DaaS) model.

He plays the following role in the Council:

  • Assists the President in all day to day affairs of The Council;
  • Exercises the duties and powers of the President during the President’s absence, inability or resignation; and
  • During the absence or inability or resignation of both the President and the Vice-President, the duties and powers of the President shall be exercised by such other Officer as the Executive Committee may appoint.

Shams ahsan

Treasurer

Shams Ahsan is an MBA from University of Michigan and currently works for Rogers Wireless and looks after their Corporate Sales for the past 10 years.

He plays the following role in the Council:

  • Attends to and is responsible for ensuring procedural compliance in respect of giving all notices of the Executive Committee meetings and General Meetings;
  • Attends all meetings of the Executive Committee, General Meetings and keep appropriate records of all facts and minutes of all proceedings;
  • Ensure that the Constitution, Bye-laws and resolutions and amendments thereto passed at General Meeting are kept up-to-date and are available to Members;
  • He acts as the custodian of all books, papers, records, correspondence, contracts and other documents belonging to The Council, which he shall deliver up only when authorized by the Executive Committee to such person or persons as named;
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all Council property containing full description of all the articles owned by The Council, and shall include this inventory in any annual report to Members;
  • Responsible for all day to day correspondence and mailings, as deemed necessary from time to time, under the direction of the Executive Committee; and
  • Provides the Election Commissioner with an up-to-date list of Members in good standing.

 

Ali Raza Hemani, TreasurerAli Raza Hemani

Assist. Treasurer

He plays the following role in the Council:

  • Keeps full and accurate books of account in which shall be recorded all receipts, disbursements and other financial transactions of The Council;
  • Controls the deposit of moneys and safekeeping of securities and the disbursement of funds of The Council, under the direction of the Executive Committee.
  • Renders the Executive Committee at meeting thereof or whenever required, an account of all transactions and of the financial position of The Council;
  • Prepares or cause to be prepared financial statements for the purpose of audit and shall present such audited financial statements at the General Meetings; and
  • Presents budget for the ensuing fiscal year at the Annual General Meeting.

He plays the following role in the Council:

  • Manages all programs as decided by The Council from time to time;
  • Seeks help and assistance, as may be needed, from the Executive Committee, Ladies Committee, Youth Society or any other Member of The Council; and
  • Makes sure that proper notices and announcements for holding of such programs have been made.

Chairlady

She plays the following role in the Council:

  • Presides at all meetings of the Ladies Committee;
  • Responsible for the management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the ladies section; and
  • Appoints committee of volunteers as deemed appropriate.

Asma Jahan Murtuza

Assistant Chairlady

She plays the following role in the Council:

  • Presides at all meetings of the Ladies Committee in the absence of Chairlady;
  • Assists Chairlady in the management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the ladies section; and
  • Exercises the duties and powers of the Chairlady during the Chairlady’s absence, inability or resignation; and
  • During the absence or inability or resignation of both the Chairlady and the Vice-Chairlady, the duties and powers of the Chairlady shall be exercised by such other Officer as the Executive Committee may appoint.
