Understanding the charector الشَّيطَانِ, recognizing the open and bitter enemy.
The word derived from the root ش ط ن (shīn-ṭā-nūn) occurs a total of 88 times in the Qur’an.

  1. In the Qur’an, Iblis (إبليس)—the figure identified as Satan or the Devil—is a central character who embodies pride, disobedience, and the ongoing moral struggle facing humanity.

2. The Fall of Iblis: Pride and Arrogance (Kibr)
The critical event defining Iblis’s narrative occurs after Allah swt creates Adam, the first human, and commands all creatures present to prostrate to him out of respect.
3. The Reprieve and Oath to Deceive

Upon being expelled, Iblis makes a request to Allah swt for a reprieve until the Day of Resurrection, which God grants:

  1. The Request: “He said, ‘Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.’ [Allah] said, ‘Indeed, you are of those reprieved.'” (7:14–15)

Allamah Hassan-zadeh Amoli’s teaching:

  • The Real Enemy is Inside You: Satan (Iblis) has no real power to force you into sin—he can only whisper ideas.
  • Your Weakness Gives Him Power: Satan’s bad ideas only take root if you give in to your own selfish ego (Nafs).
  • Control Yourself First: Defeating Satan is impossible until you learn to master your own desires and ego.

“Praise be to You! How amazing and grand You are! Praise be to You! How wonderful is the world You created that we can see—yet its greatness is tiny compared to Your true Power! How breathtaking is Your kingdom that we notice—yet it is nothing compared to the hidden worlds You keep secret! How vast are Your blessings in this life—yet they are so small compared to the blessings waiting for us in the Next World!”

Imam Ali (as) presents the fight against Satan not merely as a physical clash, but as a deep spiritual war fought on the battleground of human desires, intellect, and social unity. «الشَّهَوَاتُ خِبَالُ الشَّيَاطِينِ» “Carnal desires are the nets and traps spread by Satan.”

“Fight against your internal desires just as you fight against your external enemy.”

Sermon 2:

If a devote enters at Jumua prayer after the two sermons…..

We have enjoined man concerning his parents: His mother carried him through weakness upon weakness, and his weaning takes two years. Give thanks to Me and to your parents. To Me is the return. (14)

But if they urge you to ascribe to Me as partner that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. Keep their company honourably in this world and follow the way of those who turn to Me penitently. Then to Me will be your return, whereat I will inform you concerning what you used to do.

Religious, Ideological, and Civilizational Themes

  • Shared Struggles: The text presents ordinary Iranians and Americans as being impacted by the decisions of elite ruling classes.
  • Sectarian & Messianic Rhetoric: The letter includes references to both Islamic scriptures (the Qur’an) and Christian texts (including quotes from Jeremiah and Psalms), calling for peaceful coexistence and anticipating a shared spiritual resolution.

Reported from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as).

Kitab al-Ghaybah by Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Nu’mani (Chapter 14, Hadith 50); also narrated in Bihar al-Anwar by Allamah Majlisi (Vol. 52, p. 243).

“It is as if I am looking at a people who have emerged from the East demanding the truth (right), but it is not granted to them. Then they demand it again, but it is still not granted to them. When they see this, they bear their swords upon their shoulders.

Then they are offered what they originally asked for, but they refuse to accept it until they rise up (in full movement). And they will not hand over this banner except to your Master (Imam al-Mahdi). Their slain are martyrs. Indeed, if I were to live to see that time, I would preserve myself for the Master of this Affair.”
